 Our
business here in Bali, which is home to us, has
its roots in a little shop we opened in Jakarta
in 2000. Initially, it was a purely retail outlet
and we were able to keep it stocked by sourcing
locally, mostly from small and home-industry producers
in Bali and Java. However, as time went by we received
increasing numbers of larger orders, from other
shops, wedding planners, corporate buyers looking
for distinctive promotional products and the like.
We found that local sourcing was not always the
ideal way to meet our buyers’ needs and so
established our own means of production in Bali.
It was, however, not long before our workshop was
‘discovered’ by local retailers looking
for locally produced items for their shops, by tour
guides looking for attractive bargains for their
charges, and by shipping agents sourcing for their
clients. This was good for sales but not for production
so we moved to new premises, converting our original
workshop into a small shop-showroom.
We maintain our relationship with the more reliable
of our home-industry producers and value their contribution
to the success of our business while doing all we
can to see that they get a fair deal for their work.
Our own craftspeople produce bags, shoes and sandals,
belts, accessories (necklaces, bracelets, earrings,
key rings etc) cushion covers, mosquito nets, mattresses,
bed covers and garments and other such items to
meet our own or our clients needs, using a wide
variety of traditional and present day materials
and designs. |
